In recognizing the challenges of preventing and countering violent extremism, STRADA Development Initiative approached the Association of Nigerian Authors to create and implement a national programme on Preventing Countering Violent Extremism. The programme was created in 2017 under a Memorandum of Understanding. STRADA Development Initiative is the implementing partner of the MoU.
The Association of Nigerian Authors Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (ANA PCVE) Programme runs as a specialized programme of the Association of Nigerian Authors to combat the challenge of violent extremism and terrorism using a culture-based approach which leverages on the Association’s extensive network of writers and primacy across the literary genres of prose, poetry and drama.
Founded in 1981 by the late Professor Chinua Achebe, the Association presently has 28 chapters across the country and a total of 10,000 members and is the biggest craft union in Africa.
The ANA PCVE Programme will bring to bear the capabilities of the Association in the national and global struggle against violent extremism while increasing and improving the capacity of the Association to play an even more responsive role in Nigeria’s internal security.
The programme is headed by a Programme Manager who oversees three component activities.
